Day 6 A good cup of tea

There's nothing better than a good brew...

Our family loves a good brew. According to Wikipedia after water, tea is the most widely consumed drink in the world, so we must be on to something good! Dad is Scottish and we all know how much his proud nation stands by the idea that all of the world's problems can be solved over a good cup of tea.

Would you like some plastic with that?

We've recently discovered that the majority of teabags are actually only 70-80% biodegradable because they contain polypropylene, Ouch, that was a shock. Luckily we made a shift to loose leaf tea years ago and haven't looked back.

But.... according the to the UK Tea Council (we love the idea that such an institute exists!) 96 percent of the 165,000,000 cups of tea drunk every day in the UK are made with tea bags. We can only guess that the figure is likely to be similar in Australia. We also know that it is getting increasingly difficult to source loose leaf tea in grocery stores.

Our lovely red tea pot!

Some of our families suggestions and ideas we'd love to share:

Did you realise that tea bags are not compostable, and contain plastic?

    1. Hi! Its not just the twabags, but the ethics/sustainability of tea production itself is pretty dicey.

      1. Yes, at this stage we hope that we aren't contributing to this with a preference for purchasing locally grown tea (and we make our own 'herbal teas' from home grown herbs.
